Automattic Releases Free Lightroom Plugin

January 25, 2017

If your brand places emphasis on visual content and you rely on photography to help sell your products or services then the recent news from Automattic is sure to put a smile on your face. Last week they announced a new free plugin that makes it easier than ever before to export photos from Lightroom to WordPress. This plugin has been heavily requested for years, so it’s great to see there’s finally an option for both WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites (more on that later!).

Once you’re set up and ready to go all you need to do is select your desired images in Lightroom, click the ‘Export’ button, choose your blog or website and…that’s it! Your pre-edited pictures will be exported to WordPress and ready to display on your homepage or in your latest blog post. The whole process takes mere minutes from start to finish and is set to revolutionise the way we add photos to our WordPress library.

However, there are a couple of things to note before you get started. First up, you will need to have a Lightroom license of enjoy the benefits of this plugin. It doesn’t matter whether you opt for a standalone or subscription license and it’s well worth looking into if you frequently add new imagery to your WordPress site.

Finally, there have been multiple questions about how self-hosted WordPress users can get access to the plugin and the answer is extremely simple. As long as you’re running Jetpack and the ‘Jetpack Manage’ module is activated, you’re good to go. For more information about how to run the Lightroom plugin on a self-hosted site, visit the WordPress.com guide.
