At AWESEM we like to stay ahead of the game and pay attention to changes and steps forward in the world of WordPress. A growing trend we’ve noticed over the last year is the demand for WordPress to be installed on Microsoft servers as bigger and more well-known brands are adopting WordPress.
Two projects we worked on this year were with bookatable.com and pinsentmasons.com and we love the way both sites turned out. Installing WordPress on Microsoft servers can require a complex set up, which is why it can be a great idea to hand the hard labour over to a WordPress agency, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the great results at the end.
In recent years Microsoft has really upped its game with IIS introducing various modules allowing the user to bridge the gap which used to exist between IIS and Apache. Using these modules and their features such as URL rewrite and reverse proxy it is now even easier than before to add a WordPress blog or sub-site to your pre-existing site.
Previously, a lot companies in this situation opted for a simple sub-domain approach where the WordPress site runs on an Apache server separate from the core IIS site. For SEO reasons it is however recommended to use a sub-folder for your WordPress site rather than a sub-domain as emphasised by Randfish over at Moz.
If you have an IIS hosted site and wish to add a new WordPress site in a sub-folder this can now be easily achieved, want to host your WordPress site on Microsoft’s own Azure cloud platform this is also no problem. WordPress multi-sites help maintain a single codebase together with internationalisation via WPML and local domain mapping, e.g. awesem.co.uk/blog/, awesem.de/blog/ or a more complex structure in a nested language folder such as awesem.com/de/blog/ is also no problem. Think of pretty much any combination of Apache, IIS, .net sites and WordPress and we can find a solution for you.
So as you can see, while the idea of moving your site to WordPress might seem like a mountain that’s impossible to climb, trusting the migration to the right agency can turn it into a stress-free process that only serves to improve both your brand and your customer experience.
