WordCamp Europe 2016

May 29, 2016

At AWESEM we’re huge fans of WordCamps Europe and this conference is an annual highlight away from the office. So far WordCamp Europe has taken us to Leiden in Holland, Sofia in Bulgaria and Seville in Spain. As WordCamp Europe 2016 is on the horizon, we wanted to share a few details about Europe’s biggest WordPress event.

This year’s WordCamp Europe is taking place in the beautiful Austrian city of Vienna on June 24th – 26th and is expected to be a record year, with over 2,000 people set to attend the three day event – 400 additional tickets were released after the event sold out by the end of January. The team behind the event describe it as a ‘global conference dedicated to all things WordPress… Every year WordCamp Europe gives the European WordPress community a chance to gather together in a new beautiful location to geek out, share experiences, do business and, most of all, talk WordPress’.

Those attending the event can expect two days of the best WordPress panels led by WordPress experts from all over the world, a contributor day that teaches users how to give back to WordPress, an opportunity to meet community leaders and networking events that will introduce you to like-minded people. Plus, there’s an epic after party that regular attendees will tell you is unmissable!

This year the Contributor day is taking place on Sunday June 26th and is one of the most exciting parts of the conference for those who want to get more involved in the WordPress community. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet other WordPress developers and designers and learn how you can help keep WordPress growing and evolving. After all, it’s now powering 25% of all global websites so help is always appreciated!

A whole host of exciting speakers can be found at every WordCamp event around the world but it looks as though WordCamp Europe 2016 might have one of the best line ups ever. To start with, WordPress co-founders Mike Little and Matt Mullenweg are both confirmed to be speaking, with this event serving as Mike Little’s first WordCamp outside of the UK. Other confirmed speakers are John Blackbourn (senior WordPress developer at Human Made in the UK and a WordPress core Developer), Sonja Leix (the co-organiser of WordCamp New York 2015 and WordCamp Europe 2015), Naoko Takano (a Globalizer at Automattic) and Peter Wilson (a developer with two decades of experience and a regular contributor to WordPress Core).

It’s not only the speakers that you can get excited about, as the sponsors of WordCamp Europe read like a who’s who of leading businesses that operate with and within the WordPress community. Those already confirmed include Yoast, Jetpack, WooCommerce, Sucuri and ManageWP.

As expected, WordCamp Europe will be heavily covered on social media, so even if you’re unable to attend you can still follow along with all the news on the official hashtag, #WCEU.

If you are attending and you would like to meet up for a chat then drop us a line.
