WordPress 5.0 Beta Released
WordPress 5.0 is slated for release on November 19th, making it under a fortnight until 2018’s biggest WordPress release hits the web. In preparation for the launch, the 5.0 beta 3 was released yesterday morning and the first release candidate is proposed to go live next week on November 12th.
The new beta includes all of the changes from last week’s Gutenberg 4.2 release candidate and has also tackled a bug relating to the custom field meta box display.
As always, if you’re curious to try out beta releases for yourself then we recommend taking a full back up beforehand and running these on a test site to avoid any potential issues with live sites.
In other WordPress 5.0 news, we’re seeing a number of WordPress theme authors preparing their themes for the release with Gutenberg compatibility. Themeisle’s Hestia theme, the Astra theme and the full directory of Anders Norén’s eighteen blog themes have all recently been updated to be fully compatible with WordPress’ impending new page builder.
It’s worth mentioning at this point that the November 19th release of WordPress 5.0 is a proposed date rather than a fixed date. The team working on the release will continue to monitor for last minute fixes and bugs, and an announcement will be made in due course if there are any causes for delay. In the mean time, we recommend reading up on Gutenberg and preparing your site for its introduction later this month.
As always, our team are on standby to assist with any WordPress builds and we would be happy to discuss any potential projects in more detail. To find out more and for a quote personalised to your business, contact our team today.
